Our customer and client facing teams couldn't do their jobs without the support of our Specialist Functions. They provide the infrastructure critical to our day-to-day business, and the expertise needed to shape the future of the Bank.
Whether it's supporting our 85,000 staff, managing our 2,500 buildings or protecting our assets worth in excess of USD517 billion, our Specialist Functions ensure the efficient operation of the Bank.

About the programme

This programme is offered in three key areas - Corporate Real Estate Services, Group Internal Audit and Human Resources.
On this programme you will complete focused rotations and be supported by close and regular interaction with senior leaders. We will provide:
  • Real life experience that will help you to hit the ground running
  • A deep appreciation for the international nature of our business through day-to-day interactions with cross border teams
  • Exposure to different cultures and new ways of thinking through our global teams
  • Career acceleration through an intense focus on strictly relevant areas.

Programme streams

Graduates can select from one of three Specialist Functions - Corporate Real Estate Services (CRES), Group Internal Audit (GIA) or Human Resources.
The programme structure will vary depending on which function you select. However, all graduates will:
  • Attend the International Induction Programme (IIP) held in Kuala Lumpur
  • Attend an induction specific to your chosen function following the IIP
  • Undertake an 18-month programme of rotations to build breadth of knowledge across your chosen function. 
You'll also be supported with:
  • A dedicated Graduate Development Manager to guide you through the programme
  • Regular one-on-one reviews designed to track your progress and performance
  • A mentor to help guide you and help bring their expertise to bear on your development and day-to-day decision-making.
It's important to choose the Specialist Function which best reflects your skills, interests and ambitions.
Corporate Real Estate Services (CRES) develops, maintains and protects all aspects of the Bank's infrastructure and corporate real estate portfolio for the benefit of both staff and customers. In addition to Asset Management, Project Management and Facilities Management, CRES is also responsible for Security, Business Continuity, and Health Safety & the Environment.
CRES manages a portfolio of more than 2,500 buildings in 71 markets across the globe.

Rotations:

Rotation 1 - CRES Operations
During this rotation, you will gain an understanding of the role of the Country Operations team, developing skills around transaction management, project management and facilities management, as well as CRES core activities.
Rotation 2 - CRES Risk
During this rotation you will be assigned to one of the three CRES Risk teams - Business Continuity Management, Health Safety & the Environment or Security - where you will learn fundamentals associated with governance, approval and management processes.
Rotation 3 - CRES Real Estate
Build knowledge and skills around the key CRES customers, global real estate markets, and the Project Management Office.
Rotation 4 - Project
Assigned to a live CRES project to build skills and knowledge in areas specific to the project along with general project management and budgetary understanding.

During the programme you'll develop:
  • A broad understanding of every aspect of the Consumer Bank - from risk to products, and everything in between.

  • Business management skills that enable you to see the big picture, and also give you the skills needed to dive into the detail if required.
To prepare you for a demanding role as a future leader we'll teach you how a retail bank works - from how to identify and mitigate risk to product innovation, to aligning the operations of the business behind our strategic intent. By teaming you up with our best senior leaders, you will build the management skills necessary to run the business, shape our agenda and lead diverse teams in some of the world's most dynamic markets.
And we'll stand right behind you, supporting you to develop the necessary skills and knowledge covering every aspect of our Consumer Banking business.

Programme structure

The programme content changes each year to keep pace with our strategy and the current environment, though you can expect to take part in:
    • A demanding academic programme to learn the fundamentals of retail banking
    • A programme of rotations in the core component parts of our business
    • Technical training delivered by experts in-country
    • An action learning programme solving real business challenges.

Academic Programme


The first academic programme is held in Kuala Lumpur, directly following the International Induction Programme (IIP). The second is held in Singapore towards the end of your first year, giving you an opportunity to reconnect with graduates from across the globe.
Here you'll learn the fundamentals of retail banking and receive leadership development training to support your transition into a permanent role

Rotations

On return to your home office you will commence rotations covering all aspects of the Consumer Bank:
Rotation 1 - RiskSpend four months learning about our governance and decision making processes.
Rotation 2 - ProductIn your next four month rotation, learn about the features and benefits of different products in our portfolio, and get involved in product development.
Rotation 3 - OperationsFocus the next four months of your rotation on improvements to productivity, service and quality
Rotation 4 - Front LineSpend six months applying the knowledge you have gained. Experience the customer first hand and learn the skills needed to build deep and lasting relationships.

Development

To complement this on the job learning, you'll also take part in technical training to develop your understanding of the mechanics of different products within the Consumer Banking portfolio.
During the Action Learning Programme we offer our best and brightest the opportunity to make a real difference by helping us shape the future of the Bank by working in teams to address real business challenges. Rotations

The programme is comprised of a number of job rotations to provide you with an understanding of end-to-end retail banking:
Rotation 1 - Branch Operations Gain an understanding of the collaboration between branch and operations, and focus on service, productivity and quality in this two month rotation.
Rotation 2 - Credit Risk During this two months you will learn how we collate and use data in the decision making process.
Rotation 3 - Product Get involved in customer-centric product development and spend two months learning about our different products.
During the final rotation, lasting six to 12 months, you will take on a customer facing role, becoming skilled at customer relationship management. You'll seek to understand your customers' needs, bringing together comprehensive and bespoke solutions to meet their requirements.
The time taken to complete this final rotation is up to you. The motivation and drive you bring to your performance will determine how fast you rise.

The Graduate Development Manager and Rotation Manager will oversee your moves through the different parts of the business.
